Artist as Gardener

People often ask me what one thing I would recommend to restore relationship between land and people. My answer is almost always, “Plant a Garden.”

Robin Wall Kimmerer

What does it mean to be in right relationship with the earth? How do we repair our connection to the land? And, after uprooting my family and moving cross-country during a global pandemic: Where and what is this place? How do I care for it? How does it care for me?

In 2021, taking on the inquiry lens of an artist, I embarked on teaching myself how to garden. I rented two community garden spaces at Westmoor Park, in West Hartford, CT, and I built a 40′ space, learning how to grow food from seeds. I documented my process through photos, videos, and drawings, which I shared online with my distant community, one I was missed so deeply.
