cotton from repurposed Ikea curtains, marigold extract, ground walnut shells, sumac, iron, thread, jute, water-based ink
40′ x 14″
These flags were designed as a deer barrier for my 2023 Dye Garden, a 20’ x 20’ community garden plot at Westmoor Park, in West Hartford, CT. Both a memorial to my ancestors who worked this same land, and a celebration of earth’s harvests, this installation holds conflicting truths about the power and history embedded in the land. Each image is of a seed planted in the garden, screenprinted on fabric naturally dyed with walnut, marigold, sumac, and iron.
Photos seen here were taken at various points during the 2023 growing season.
